We are one the few democratic emergency medicine partnerships in the country.  All of the partners actively work shifts in the emergency department in addition to administrative roles.  We all live in the community that we serve.  DESPA has been providing care at Luminis Health Anne Arundel Medical Center since 1984 when the hospital was located in the center of downtown Annapolis before moving to its current location. 

Being a physician owned and operated group grants increased flexibility and adaptability to a continuously changing medical landscape. We strive to maintain a work environment that is both enjoy and sustainable, thus improving the provider and patient experience.  We are just as much as family as we are a partnership of emergency medical providers. 

Our mission is to provide quality and expeditious care to patients in conjunction with Luminis Health medical staff as it pertains to acute care in the community while maintaining a work environment that focuses on provider well-being and collaboration. 

We are involved with medical education supporting the internal medicine and OB/GYN residencies at Luminis Health as well as outside residencies, physician assistant and nurse practitioner programs.  Practical experience and passage of knowledge are core principles of medical education and we feel that it is our duty to contribute to the training of the next generation of care providers for our community.
